1. Replace tires timely to avoid forklift hazards
Forklifts serve as essential core equipment for stacking and transporting goods in warehouses, manufacturing plants and logistics parks. There are two main types of forklift tires available on the market: solid tires and pneumatic tires, and our focus today is on solid tires. As the sole contact component between forklifts and the ground, tires directly affect driving stability, operator safety and overall equipment maintenance cost based on their working condition.
Field surveys by logistics maintenance engineers across numerous warehousing enterprises reveal that most factories keep worn-out tires in service. Many facility managers overlook minor surface damages on tires, which eventually lead to safety accidents including rollover and tire blowout.
Industry experts note that defective tires can be identified visually. Any visible damage requires immediate equipment shutdown and tire replacement to prevent safety incidents and unnecessary financial losses at source.
2. Five Visible Tire Defects Requiring Urgent Replacement
l Excessive tread wear: Tread patterns are worn flat down to built-in wear indicators, thinning rubber loses anti-slip traction, resulting in slipping and braking failure on damp or oily floors. Our forklift tires feature a three-layer structure: wear-resistant tread layer, elastic cushion layer and rigid base layer. Under regular operation, wear only occurs on the outer tread layer, delivering much better wear tolerance than generic cheap tires.
l Cracked & peeling rubber:Cracks of varying lengths or chunk rubber loss appear on tread or sidewall. Deep cracks penetrate inner layers, letting moisture and debris accelerate internal deterioration.
l Bulged tire surface:Uneven bulges form from persistent overloading or heavy impact, caused by broken inner cords. Bulged sections bear poor load capacity with high blowout risk.
l Exposed steel cords: Large rubber peeling exposes internal steel framework, which scratches floors and cargo while speeding up hub abrasion via metal friction.
l Unilateral abnormal wear: Severe wear on only one tire side usually stems from misaligned axle or faulty steering; continued operation ruins tires as well as suspension and hub components.
3. Consequences of Delayed Tire Replacement
(1) A case
A 3-ton diesel forklift at a Jiangsu warehouse was repeatedly overloaded with carton cargo. Its front solid tires were fully worn flat with massive sidewall cracks and exposed inner steel wires. The company delayed tire replacement to cut costs. When the driver made a sharp downhill turn carrying a 2.2-ton load, exposed steel wires ripped the tire casing instantly. Sudden tire blowout shifted the forklift’s center of gravity and tipped the truck sideways. The crushed cab fractured the driver’s right leg, and falling goods severely damaged storage racks, causing direct economic losses of 128,000 RMB.
(2) Adverse consequences
l Elevated safety risks:Insufficient traction during turning or heavy lifting causes skidding or rollover, triggering staff injury and cargo damage losses.
l Surging maintenance expenses: Uneven force from damaged tires accelerates wear on hubs, bearings and axles; subsequent repair cost far exceeds tire replacement fees.
l Reduced operational efficiency:Unexpected blowouts halt forklift operation, disrupting inbound/outbound schedules and delaying shipment arrangements.
4. Superior Features and Daily Maintenance
(1) Our advantages
To avoid these losses, choose our premium black solid tires and non-marking solid tires complete with matching rims. Our solid tires feature a quick-assembly design that eliminates the need for hydraulic pressing equipment, cutting installation labor costs. Built with a three-layer(Tread Layer,Middle Cushion Layer,Base Layer)elastic composite construction, the high-natural-rubber tread delivers excellent wear and puncture resistance alongside low rolling resistance to reduce forklift power consumption. The soft middle compound restricts heat buildup and offers great elasticity for effective shock absorption and safer operation. Over ten customized rubber formulas are available to suit diverse working environments including warehouses, cold storage, chemical plants and construction sites.
(2) Solid tire maintenance
l Tires are maintained step by step in conjunction with vehicle maintenance. Mainly check the tread wear, whether there are scratches, deformation, cracks, delamination, aging, remove foreign material between the tires, pattern grooves, gravel and debris on the tread, and check whether the tire assembly is improper, rims, retainers, lock rings are normal. Record the problems found and deal with them in time.
l Solid tires should be transposed according to tread pattern wear to maintain uniform tread pattern wear.
l Avoid the pollution of oil and chemical substances in the use of the site to prevent premature aging of tires.
5. Future Development Trend of Forklift Tire Industry
Driven by rising popularity of electric forklifts and AGV automated warehouse vehicles, the forklift tire industry develops toward high-performance, eco-friendly and customized solutions. High-performance new-material tires, recyclable green tires and application-specific specialty tires are gradually replacing conventional rubber tires.
In line with industrial upgrading, we supply premium black solid tires and non-marking solid tires with rims customized for various working scenarios. Welcome inquiries and orders.
